Epidural steroid injections

Epidural steroid injections have been a common treatment option for many forms of neck, mid, and lower back pain, as well as upper extremity and lower extremity pain for decades and, are an important tool in the nonsurgical management of sciatica and lower back pain.

The practice involves injecting a local anesthetic and a steroid medication directly into the epidural space that surrounds the spinal cord and nerve roots.

Pain Epidural Injections can be effective tools to:

  • Control pain by reducing inflammation in and around nerve roots
  • Improve mobility and function in the neck and upper extremities, arms, and forearms
  • Allow the patient to participate in and recover as fully as possible in a comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitation program
